SOS/Lighthouse

The purpose of South Oakland Shelter (SOS) is to help homeless individuals with their immediate needs while they actively work toward more permanent solutions to their homelessness. SOS is a rotating emergency shelter that resides in area host churches. Each church takes a one week turn in the rotation. SOS is now under the umbrella of Lighthouse.

Every May our parish co-hosts SOS for one week. We alternate with Rochester Church of Christ providing housing at the church, three meals a day and transportation to and from our facility for a group of 25-30 men, women and children. It takes a huge commitment and tremendous coordination to make this short, intense week a success. It takes close to 100 people and over $3,000 for the church to help our guests. There are a multitude of ways to be involved in this tremendous effort.
