Confirmation Class

2022-2023 Confirmation Class

Welcome to the Confirmation Class for St. Philip’s. We are glad you are interested in participating with us.

 

Goal: Participants will be able to clarify and articulate what it means to them to be a Christian and an Episcopalian. They will be ready to make their mature profession of faith, to accept the promises made for them at their Baptism, and to receive the strengthening gift of the Holy Spirit.

 

Confirmation Service: The confirmation service will be scheduled in Spring 2023 – the date will be announced as soon as we have it.

 

Leaders: Fr. Eric is the primary confirmation teacher, with help and support from Jane Brown and Kathy Gravino.

 

Meetings: The class will meet most Sunday mornings in the Youth room downstairs from 11:15 am – 12:15 pm. There will also be a class on Thursday evenings once a month. See the schedule for details. You can watch the sessions here.

 

Other Youth: All youth are welcome to come to the youth group meetings on Sunday mornings whether or not they have already been confirmed or are interested in being confirmed.

 

Mentors: Each class member will be assigned an adult mentor. They will meet with their mentor at least once a month.

 

In the confirmation class, we will look at and reflect on a variety of topics which may include these and others:

  • Christianity in our culture today:
  • Other religions
  • Other denominations
  • The Episcopal Church: our beliefs, our roots, our current reality
  • The confirmation service--what it is we are being asked to promise.

 

We will work on writing two faith statements:

  • Our own personal statement of faith
  • A shared Creed that we write together

We will commit to at least 80% attendance and participation at:

  • Confirmation classes
  • Field trips and other activities
  • Sunday worship

 

Each confirmand will be asked to participate in church during the year in one of these roles:

  • Acolyte
  • Reader
  • Chalice bearer (must be 16)
  • Usher
  • Greeter

 

The class will also decide on a shared service project that they will work on during the year.
